If you looked at the picture I posted as a featured image to this post, you might have scoffed and said, “The world is NOT a beautiful place, it is a terrifying, mean and horrible place!”
I understand. I was once of that opinion, and you are correct, the world can be and is at times a terrifying place.
However, (you knew that word was coming!) if we only pay attention to the ugliness of the world we miss so much!
Snow Falling in Winter
The Beauty of a Sunset
The Sound of a Baby Laughing
The Sight of Kids Just Goofing Off
Or the Smell of Homemade Bread Baking in the Oven
Yes, there are is ugliness in the world but if we only pay attention to that and never pay homage to what is beautiful, we cheat ourselves.
Like Paula, my long-time therapist once told me, “Wouldn’t it be a shame if you spent all your time being sad and never looked around to see the joy all around you.”
Open your eyes, your ears, your nose, and look around. You’ll be surprised how much a dose of positivity will change your outlook and your life.
Food for thought.
“Beauty can be consoling, disturbing, sacred, profane; it can be exhilarating, appealing, inspiring, chilling. It can affect us in an unlimited variety of ways. Yet it is never viewed with indifference: beauty demands to be noticed; it speaks to us directly like the voice of an intimate friend. If there are people who are indifferent to beauty, then it is surely because they do not perceive it.” ~ Roger Scruton
